What is Trayna?

Dr Lavan Ganeshkumar, PhD · updated 4 October 2026

Trayna (pronounced "trainer") is a 24/7 online tutor in your pocket, on your tablet and on the web, for A-level Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. It is there for students who cannot afford 1-to-1 tutoring, and it is built to act like one. Dr Lavan Ganeshkumar, who has over ten years of teaching A-level and holds a PhD in computational chemistry from UCL, teaches every topic himself, and an adaptive plan decides what you do each day from now to your exam.

The aim is to be the best way to really understand STEM and be prepared for the subject. We say that as the aim, not as a claim, and you should judge it by the free trial.

How it works

You enter your subjects, your exam dates and how long you have each day. Trayna builds the route to those exams, then adapts it as you go.

  • Learn: a short video tutorial from Dr Lavan on each topic, with notes.
  • Recall: topics come back at spaced intervals so you do not forget them.
  • Practise: exam-style questions that are marked, with wrong answers noted and served again later.
  • Adapt: the plan changes as you do well or struggle.

Who made it

Trayna was founded in 2026 by Dr Lavan Ganeshkumar, who also founded Ganes Academy, a North London tutoring company, and The Lab Result, a STEM events company. The teaching on Trayna is his own.

What it covers

It is for both Year 12 and Year 13. Year 13 students already use it, and Year 13 topics are being added as current students need them while Year 12 is the most complete, so check your topics in the app. Maths follows Edexcel. Chemistry, Physics and Biology follow AQA. It is on iPad, iPhone, Android and the web at trayna.co.uk/learn.

What it does not do

It is A-level only: no GCSE and no other A-level subjects. It is not a free past-paper library. Its questions are written by Dr Lavan and his team, not reproduced from past papers.

Is it legit

Yes. It is made by a named teacher with verifiable qualifications, has a public App Store listing and a free trial, and publishes its privacy and safeguarding policies. Judge it by the trial and by whether it teaches you.
